Music Studio Recording (Replacement)

After the recording of the recording studio, we now shooting the rehearsal video of a certain band to show how the band rehearsal looks like. We decided to take a video first, then only transfer into image sequence form by using Adobe After Effect.

Here are some pictures of we recording the video.

After Semester Break... (Replacement)

After the semester break, we show up our prototype to each other. However, we still couldn't find a way to increase and decrease the volume for the sound mixer. We work on it and at the same time, we start recording and taking pictures of the studio and interview.

Actually the interview suppose to be held right after the semester break, but the vocalist of the band is going for a holiday. So we will have to wait. At the mean time, we go and take a panorama view of the recording studio which we will be using in the magazine.

Here are some behind the scenes and photos of the recording studio.

Helping with Sound Mixer Coding (Replacement)

After done my prototype, I help Jared for the sound mixing part as we think that this will be the part where it will give us a lot of problem. So, I have found some tutorial in Youtube about playing audio in Edge Animate.

And I try it out in Edge Animate with the coding.

And surprisingly, it works perfectly well in the browser.

Found an Easier Way for Production Part (Replacement)

Before trying out in Edge Animate, I try to find a few more options for this production part as I really don't like coding stuff. And luckily, I've found one super easy solution which I can done it in InDesign itself. All thanks to this youtube tutorial. Click HERE for the tutorial.

It is very simple, I have to find a sequence of images which I think is almost similar with stop motion.

1) Create a new box in InDesign.

2) Then it go to Folio Overlays which they automatic have some option for us to choose which one we want. Then just click on the option Image Sequence. Then go to small blue folder there, and import the first picture of the stop motion pictures.

3) Then, it's done!

During Semester Break... (Replacement)

During the semester break, I have to do a prototype for the Production part, which is the rehearsal part of the band in the form of when the reader slide the video or images, then the video will play it according to the speed of reader slide. It is something like time-lapse video but it's scrollable.

However I go online and search for how to make a time lapse video scrollable in edge, but it seems that there's no way to find out. But from the Google search, it does come out some few options.

One of it was I found it in Adobe Communities, someone ask the same question as me.

Some people indeed provide one solution for it.

When I click on it, it come out with this solution with somebody's blog.

Then I download the source file that she provided, and try it out in Edge Animate.

Interview Questions (Replacement)

Before going to semester, we have come out some interview questions for the pre-production part where we have to interview an artists.

So here are the interview questions:

INTRODUCTION
1. Could you tell us a little bit about Kluk Kluk Adventure – the band’s background ? [ how, when, why ]
2. Who are your major influences ?
3. What is your role in the band? How about the other band members? Have you had any changes of member or roles ? If yes, has it affect band’s music style from the beginning till now ?
4. What has been your biggest challenge as a band ? Have you been able to overcome that challenge ? If so, how ?
PRODUCTION
5. What is the message that the band is trying to potray or tell through the song?
6. Who writes the song lyric for the band ?
7. How about the music-making process?
8. What was the most challenging part when producing the album/song?
9. What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous?
How can fans get access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?
10. Do the band have any upcoming gigs or events?
11. What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?
12.Is there anyone you'd like to acknowledge or feel thank you to?

Before Semester Break (replacement)

Before the semester break, we decided that all of us come out with our prototype for the magazine. Actually during this semester break, we are planning to have an interview with an artist regarding our magazine, but there's two of us will not be around, so we postpone the interview.

So here are the list of group member with their own respective prototype:
Nathania: The first page and second page of BTS (Behind the Scene) about the panorama
Spencer: Pre-production Page
Adriana: Producion Page
Jared: Post Production Page.

In our own point of view, we think that the Post Production will the hardest part among the others, so we decided to help him out by finding our own ways to do it.

Try Out in InDesign

During the weekend, I try to create some content in InDesign for tryout.

First, I create a document which I choose digital publishing and choose ipad, as the magazine that we going to create will be view in ipad.

Then I start to build in the content.

Then I preview it in content viewer. It can be scroll up and down, but when the mouse release, it will go back to it's same position which is the upper part. So I will have to tryout another ways to make it scrollable.

I also have tried to adjust the margin to see the difference between setting up margin and without setting up margin, but it seems that there's not much difference....

Feedback on Group Leader

During working with our group leader, Jared Yap for 3 weeks, he manage the time quite well and organize the work for us quite well. His work is also good and he provide really good ideas about the assignment and make sure all the group members submit their work on time.

Now it's time to choose a new leader!

Strength and Weakness of Each Group Member

After working with my group member, Jared Yap, Nathania and Spencer Koh for six week, I happy working with the three of them as they are very efficient and submit the work on time, so I don't really worried about the time management. At the same time, I also realize some pros and cons in them.

Jared Yap:
He is a fast thinker and very creative in our group, while we were thinking of an idea, he already come out with an idea, he done his work efficiently and will the first one who upload to Facebook page. And sometimes he is quite blur and not get into the situation, but this not happen often.

Nathania:
She is very hard working and willing to accept any criticism regarding her work, and she have a really good sense of graphic and her work is good. She also will post her work on time on Facebook page. But one weakness about her is she can indecisive regarding her work, when we say something up to you, she will hesitate and don't know what to do for a moment. But she still manage to get her job done.

Spencer Koh:
He is the most quiet person in our group, but he also give some good ideas regarding assignment. Even though his work is not good and not bad, average, but he will post his work on time to Facebook page for us to have a look at it. However, I realize that sometimes he is quite impatient when doing something that is repeating and not getting the result.

Video Reference for Cover and Content Page

To show the example of how our cover page and content page going to looks like when in the form of interactive magazine, we have created a short animation of cover and content page.

The animation for cover page done by Nathania, whereas the content page done by Jared Yap.

This is the animation for cover page. After several of comments and feedback from our group, Nathania manage to create this short animation. I think the timing is good, but there are some pause between the movement. But overall is good.

This is the animation for content page, created by Jared Yap. The picture at the top left will change at some time, and the content which at the top right, will change when the reader click on the content that they wanted to read.

This is the page where the reader can hear the multitrack of the songs. For example, when the reader tap on the microphone, only the vocal will be played; if tap one more time, it will stop. This apply to the same as other three instruments, keyboard, guitar and drum. Besides than stop and play the song, the reader can also adjust the pitch and volume of each of the instrument.

Presentation

Today is our presentation for final mock up of our design, and our client are suppose to attend to the class and look at our presentation, but because of he is quite busy lately, so he couldn't make it to attend the presentation. So our lecturer decide to use a camera to record our presentation slide, and we explain it. Wanting to save time, we let our leader, Jared to present it.

Picture above is our presentation with our lecturer who is standing at the tripod there, and Jared (sitting) explain it.

Final Mock Up for New Layout of Behind the Scene

During the discussion about the the mock up for the behind the scene part, our group mate Nathania come out with a new layout of behind the scene.

So we sketch it out for the rough idea.

After having a rough idea, we immediately execute it. I have come out with the design for the introduction of behind the scene part.

This will the introduction part of behind the scene, there is an arrow there which will lead it to another page.

This is the page where it will lead to. There are three part of it, which is pre-production (interview), production (recording) and post production (sound mixing).

This will be the pre production page which design by Spencer, after the reader tap on interview. This will be the interview of an artist about the studio set up and writing the lyrics. The texts beside the video will a scrollable information, so that the reader can scroll up and down to see the explanation.

This will be the production page which design by me, when the reader tap on interview button. The picture which place above will be a scrollable left to right frame by frame to show the process of setting up the instrument to the singer start singing. Text below will be the explanation of it.

This is the post-production part which designed by Jared, this is the page where the reader can hear the multitrack of the songs. For example, when the reader tap on the microphone, only the vocal will be played; if tap one more time, it will stop. This apply to the same as other three instruments, keyboard, guitar and drum. Besides than stop and play the song, the reader can also adjust the pitch and volume of each of the instrument.

Scrollable Panorama Photo

Then I also found a link which show us how to create a scrollable panorama photo by using coding and jquery. I found this is useful as for the introduction part of behind the scenes, after discussion with each other, we decided to have one part of scrollable panorama photo of a studio, this is to show the reader how a recording studio looks like.

Research on How to Create Play and Mute Button using Adobe Edge Animate

Recently I have found one link which show how to create play and mute button by using Adobe Edge Animate. I find this is useful as for the behind the scenes part, we are planning to have some sound mixing of a song, so this can be use as a button to play and stop the music.

Week of Being Leader of the Group

During the time when I was the leader of this group assignment, I have manage the time well and make sure that our group don't do last minute work, as that would be very rushing and we cannot ensure that we will make it on time.

And now it's time to choose a new leader, and the new leader will be Jared Yap.

Final Mock Up for Cover Page, Content Page, Lyrics Part and Behind the Scenes

After a group discussion, we have decided on the final mock up for cover page, content page, lyrics part and behind the scenes.

This is the final mock up for the cover page by my group mate, Nathania. We will make it animate.

And this is the final mock up for content page by our current leader, Jared Yap. Beside than just only a content page, he also decide to make it interactive in a way that the reader can tap on the content that they want to read, and it will straight go to that certain page.

For the lyrics part, we have chosen the design from our group mate, Spencer Koh. He make it interactive by, the reader can tap on the songs that they want to have tutorial with, and then there will be two selection of instrument, guitar and keyboard.

After selecting the instrument that the reader want to learn, this page will appear. The upper part of it is the sample rhythm of the song just in case the reader are not familiar with the song. Whereas, the bottom part of it is the video tutorial for the songs. By the way, this page was design by Jared Yap, as we combine both of the idea.

As for the behind the scene part, this was design by Nathania. The black rectangle above will the a panorama of a recording studio, as the reader scroll along, there will be a pin point on some of the recording equipment. The reader then can tap on that pin point, and read the description of the recording equipment. Whereas the three boxes below, the process of making an album will be explained. And the black rectangle which place on the left side will be a short video of an artist' interview.

Idea for the Content of the Magazine

After looking through the magazine, we discuss on the what we wanted to do for the content of the magazine that we going to create. We are require to create two content, one is improvising the original content of the magazine and the other one is come out with something new for this magazine.

After discussion, we have decided on improvising on the lyrics part to make it interactive. Besides than having song lyric, there is also a tutorial video for each of the instrument for the particular songs: guitar, bass and drum. We decide on this idea is because some people may not know how the song should sound like, so they could watch the video to know how the music sounds like, then they could learn from the video step by step.

Our second content of the magazine, would be behind the scenes of how an album was produced. As we thinks that maybe the reader will be interested in how an album of their favourite singer or band were produced, and what need to be done.

Research on Magazine

Our group had done some research on some of the interactive magazine for our inspiration.

Picture above is one of the page for the interactive magazine, the purple tab in the picture is a link to the certain website.

There is also video in an interactive magazine for the reader to view and maybe the reader will be more understand about what the article is saying.
